Starvation

Starvation is the most common cause of death in fur seal populations. There are many reasons why seals might starve. Pups may starve if their mothers cannot supply them with enough milk. Older seals may find it difficult to catch food. If a seal is injured prey becomes difficult to catch. A seal’s teeth wear down over the years until eventually they are too blunt to hold fish.
