Where are the pups born?

Following the pupping period of November-December 2007, the number of live pups at all Australian Fur Seal colonies was estimated. Scientists call a site a ‘colony’ of Australian Fur Seals if 15 or more pups are born there. At some sites, seals ‘haul-out’ to rest but pups are not typically born there. If pups are born at a haul-out, then it is called a ‘haul-out with occasional pupping’.

The map below shows where all the colony sites were in 2007.
