Seal Entanglement
Plastic is a big problem for seals. Plastic can be found floating, drifting or stuck on the bottom. Rope, net, fishing line or packaging straps are all plastics which are bad for seals as they take a long time to break down and might stay in the ocean for years.
When plastic gets around a seal's neck, it is very hard to get off as the seal's fur points backwards and they don’t have fingers to pull the plastic off. Sometimes the plastic is tight around the seals neck and they can not chew it off.
