Wild weather

Small, new-born pups are very vulnerable in wild weather. Australian Fur Seal pups are born on rocky shore lines. During wild weather big waves can come crashing over the rocks and as the small pups are not good swimmers, they may drown if washed off the rocks and into the water.

If there are big storms in Bass Strait during November and December, many pups will get washed away from colonies.
